Depicteur was started by myself and a couple of friends as a way for people to take their photos and turn them into custom, hand-painted oil paintings. A way to provide a memorable gift or enduring piece of decor using the timeless craft of oil painting but, ya know, paintings of ridiculous things like a guy riding a lion away from an explosion or a cat on the body of a commander from the 1800's. We're here to help people make their own masterpieces.
On depicteur.com, people can learn more about our process, see examples and order their paintings. But one of the coolest option we have is called Depicteur Studio. Here, we help people create the concepts in their head into digital renderings first. Then, customers can then see a basis for what their painting will look like and get that exact image painted.
When Reddit likes your post enough to go to the front page, you definitely feel warm and tingly inside. We shared our painting we made for Instagram star cat Maccha and the fine people of Reddit upvoted it all the way to front page. As long time Reddit members and fans, this was one of the biggest treats and gained us a lot of exposure.
With Depicteur Studio, we help create the most ridiculous images. Another place that does this almost too well is Reddit's PhotoshopBattle. We wanted to reward and give back to a community we were so fond of. After teaming up with the Reddit moderators, we offered a free painted version of the most upvoted image as a prize for their Weekly Battle contest. The winning entry was an epic vision of a wild west Bernie Sanders.
We weren't launched for very long but after our collab with Maccha and getting on Reddit's front page, we got a few more substantial blogs and sites pick us up.
